Acidic Fibroblast Growth Factor (aFGF)
Growth factors are vital proteins that circulate between cells and communicate signals necessary for the maintenance and regeneration of skin tissue cells. They are naturally secreted from cells and can provide skin with collagen and elastin formation, resulting in improved firmness and elasticity. Aging and environmental stress can damage skin, but growth factors can help to repair this.
Growth factors can be stabilized by properly formulating your product to a pH of 5-6 and with a glycerin content of 10-50% with a higher percentage being preferred. According to the the following linked study, a combination of phosphates or citric acid is the preferred pH buffer to inhibit reactions and stabilize growth factors at room temperature. (See study here: Stabilizing Human Growth Factors)
