Pterostilbene is a stilbene that is readily absorbable by the body and is found in numerous fruits and nuts, but is most commonly derived from Blueberries. Stilbenes are natural phenolic defense compounds occurring in a number of different plant species that possess antimicrobial and antioxidant activities against phytopathogens and ozone or UV stress. Pterostilbene is more bioavailable than Resveratrol, but together the two complement each other for enhanced results.
Pterostilbene has been researched and identified as a powerful antioxidant, shielding cells from free radical-induced DNA harm and oxidative damage. Studies have suggested an increase in trademarks of antioxidant defense, such as glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and catalase. Additionally, it appears to be anti-inflammatory and potentially preventative of matrix-compromising proteins associated with skin aging, aiding in maintaining a youthful, elastic complexion. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities make it highly attractive for cosmetic use.
Benefits of Pterostilbene may include:
- Improved skin brightness
- Increased elasticity
- Reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improved skin texture
- SPF value
